About
The text is rooted in the companion of two pieces in the Nanyin repertoire: 自來生長 and 一紙相思. Two female characters from two different social statuses, while falling within a similar domestic image, experiences unrequited love. With the interplay of the two languages, mandarin and Nanyin text fragments from the original works, a sense of time is suggested. Yet, throughout the reinterpretation of the text, the boundaries between time and space are blurred.
The text, inspired by the original Nanyin repertoire, is originally written as a shaped poem with the title "一紙相思 (A Page of Longing)". The title are random words chosen from the scores, as it would have been the way how one titles an original Nanyin piece in the past. It is then designed into the short poem "相思"; when imagination of the sound enters, two languages as spoken music and possibly of interpreting the text without the use of words are considered.
