Autumn Yun-Ting Tsai is a librettist and playwright from Taipei, Taiwan.
Her interdisciplinary practice reinterprets the medieval past through music theatre and artistic research. Her work has been presented internationally at festivals and conferences including Kuandu Arts Festival (Taipei), CHIME Meeting (Beijing), TRAIECT III (Hannover), and International Medieval Congress (Leeds). Her music-theatre Gone with the Rainy Season, premiered at Sankt Peter Köln and Monopol Berlin, interweaves English, Italian, Taiwanese, and Mandarin with the prose of the twentieth-century Taiwanese female travel writer San Mao. Her libretto The Space in Between, premiered at Sprengel Museum Hannover and Ensemble Water Stage Taipei, explores Taiwanese Beiguan gongche notation and diverse narratives of Zhaojun Departing for the Frontier, addressing the silent bride’s diplomatic marriage in historical records and performance traditions. Her artistic research Mirror of Words reconstructs epistolary narratives of memory, grief, and consolation through personal book collections ranging from Virgil and Dante to an English–Latin bilingual edition of Alice in Wonderland, integrating choreographic methods, environmental sound, and Mandarin–English narratives. She has ongoing collaborations with composers Rachel C. Walker, Philipp Henkel, and performance artist Vera Yun-Ju Lee, exploring Boethian musical harmony through liturgy, visual poetry, and media art. |
